Accessibility

Good food should be easy to shop for, for everyone. We want everyone to be able to browse, read about, and buy from Good Ode, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, voice control, magnification, or other assistive technology.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That's the current international standard for accessible websites, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

What we do

  • We review the whole site against WCAG 2.2 AA every week, using automated testing tools plus a page-by-page check of things tools can't judge on their own.
  • We fix problems in the site's design and code. We don't use accessibility overlays or widgets.
  • Every product photo has a written description, and photos that show text, like our ingredient lists, include that text in the description.
  • You can browse, add to cart, and check out using only a keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are. Bars that stay on screen while you scroll are kept from covering the item you're on. Text is kept readable against its background, and scrolling text can be paused.

Known limitations

We're still working on a few things:

  • Ingredient lists appear as images on product pages. The full ingredient text is in each image's description, so screen readers can read it. Adding the lists as regular text is on our to-do list.
  • Extra photos in product cards now have arrow buttons you can use with a keyboard. On very narrow screens the arrows are hidden and photos are swiped instead; every photo is also on the product's own page, where you can step through them with a keyboard.
  • The sticky buy bar on product pages comes from a third-party app (Buystro). Its variant and quantity fields aren't labelled for screen readers yet. You can use the main Add to cart area on the page instead.
  • Checkout, customer accounts, and payment buttons (such as Shop Pay) are provided by Shopify and our payment partners. We can't change their code.

Tell us about a barrier

If anything on our site is hard to use, please let us know. We'll do our best to help you get what you need and to fix the problem.

Please tell us which page you were on and what happened.
